Chanterelles aren’t widely known in Iowa, but they grow here in abundance, are delicious and hard to mistake for anything else. Because we love them so much, we are having a foraging party that will be announced as we begin to find the little beauties! It is usually late July or early August, so clear a little time then and prepare to be wowed by your new favorite Fun Guy (fungi)!
Mushroom Foraging -- July15 - August 15
This will be a deep dive into Iowa woods, most likely on a hot day, so come well prepared for bugs and poison ivy! Long pants, a wide brimmed hat and sturdy shoes required. Long sleeves and long socks recommended. Bug and tick spray will be provided, but bring your own basket and mushroom knife, you can keep what you find.
We will meet at the barn near our house and go to the hunting site from there.
We will finish the day with mushroom cleaning and a quick chanterelle pasta dish. You won't be disappointed!
